🔍 What is Root Caries?
Published
Root caries is tooth decay that occurs on the root surface of a tooth rather than on the crown (top part). It typically starts when the gums recede, exposing the cementum – the outer layer of the root, which is much softer and less protected than enamel.
Since roots don’t have a hard enamel covering, they are more vulnerable to decay when exposed to plaque, acids, and bacteria.
